Data protection

Usercentrics is connected to Consent Overlays and uses its data protection feature to handle the supported services. For external services that aren't covered by Consent Overlays, Usercentrics provides an additional feature called Smart Data Protector.

Setup

In general, data protection is set individually for each service in the Consent Overlays. However, there may be external services that aren't supported by Consent Overlays but by Usercentrics' Smart Data Protector. Hence, Usercentrics has its own data protection options that may extend the functionality of Consent Overlays.

To adjust the data protection mode for websites using Usercentrics, go to: YOOtheme Pro → Corporate Tools → Consent Tools → Consent Management → Usercentrics → Advanced → Data Protection.

There, you can choose between these two options:

• YOOtheme Data Protector
• YOOtheme + Smart Data Protector

YOOtheme Data Protector

YOOtheme Data Protector is just a synonym for the data protection feature provided by Consent Overlays. It handles external services that come with YOOtheme Pro. To see what services are currently supported, have a look at this list.

Smart Data Protector

Smart Data Protector is a data protection feature provided by Usercentrics. It handles a wide range of external services. It can be used for external services that aren't covered by Consent Overlays.

Currently supported technologies are listed in the dedicated documentation.

Limitations

Unlike Consent Overlays, Smart Data Protector cannot prevent external scripts from being preloaded. Companies that provide external scripts will receive the IP address of your visitors in any case. Note that IP addresses are classified as personal data according to the GDPR.
