Consent Mode
Consent Mode is a Google API that transmits the visitor's consent decision to Google and adjusts the way of collecting and transferring personal data in accordance to the consent state.
Setup
Basic knowledge required
Before continuing, go to Consent Overlays section and read more about Consent Mode itself. Otherwise, you won't be able to understand these configuration steps.
To use Consent Mode with Usercentrics, you have to adjust your settings at several interfaces.
1a. Usercentrics Account
If you use a Setting-ID directly issued by Usercentrics, follow these instructions:
- Log in to your Usercentrics accout (https://account.usercentrics.eu/).
- Go to Unassigned tab.
- Scroll to the Setting ID in question and click on Edit.
- Go to Configuration → CMP Settings and make sure Google Consent Mode is enabled.
- Go to Service Settings → Data Processing Services and click on Add DPS via Database.
- Add the external services you use, i.e. Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. If you load Google Analytics via your Google Tag Manager container, you have to choose both services. Do not choose Google Consent Mode as a service as this won't be necessary.
- Make sure your services are added to the correct category. Choose Functional if you want to use Basic Consent Mode.
- Finally, click on Publish for your changes to take effect.
1b. eRecht24 Account
If you use a Setting-ID issued by eRecht24, follow these instructions:
- Log in to your eRecht24 accout (https://login.e-recht24.de/login).
- Go to Tools → Projekt Manager für Webseiten.
- Scroll to the project in question and click on Zum Projekt.
- Go to Cookie Consent (Banner) für Webseite and click on the pencil.
- Click on Dienste hinzufügen.
- Add the external services you use, i.e. Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. If you load Google Analytics via your Google Tag Manager container, you have to choose both services. Do not choose Google Consent Mode as a service as this won't be necessary.
- Click on Auswahl abschließen.
- Make sure your services are added to the correct category. Move them to Funktionale Cookies if you want to use Basic Consent Mode.
- Finally, click on Einstellungen speichern for your changes to take effect.
Consent Mode in older projects
If you have recently added your project to eRecht24, Consent Mode is enabled by default. Older projects may lack this automatic enabling. You can check the status of Google Consent Mode on your website by opening your browser console and executing the UC_UI.getSettingsCore(); command. If googleConsentMode is set to false, please contact the eRecht24 support and ask them to enable Google Consent Mode for your Setting ID.
2. Consent Overlays
Now, that you have prepared your CMP for Google Consent Mode, it's time to prepare your website as well.
- Go to YOOtheme Pro → Corporate Tools → Consent Tools → Consent Overlay.
- Click on the external service you want to edit. If you load Google Analytics via your Google Tag Manager container, click on Google Tag Manager
- Make sure that Data Protection is set to With mandatory consent.
- Go to Advanced tab.
- Choose the Consent Mode you want to use. By default, Consent Mode is set to the recommended setting Basic.
Synchronize your settings
If you use Basic Consent Mode, do not use Essential category in your CMP settings. Otherwise, your external services will always load, no matter what settings you've made here. However, there are more advanced setups we cannot cover in our own documentation. If you need a more advanced setup of your Google products, you can consult our additional fee-paying support via mail.
3. YOOtheme Settings
Finally, you are ready to enable the external services on your website.
- Go to YOOtheme Pro → Settings → External Settings.
- Enter either your Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager (GTM) ID depending on your setup. If you load Google Analytics via your GTM container, only enter your GTM ID.
Debug
To make sure that your setup is correct and functional, you can debug your configuration using Google's Tag Assistant (https://tagassistant.google.com/).
One more tool is Consent Mode Inspector for Chrome browsers, which is available through Chrome web store.
Extensive support
At this point, our own support ends. We do not provide support for external services themselves. If you need further help with your Google products, you can consult our additional fee-paying support via mail.
